Fall Monster Garage Sale! Sept. 16-17th
It’s time for our annual fall garage sale, with all the proceeds going to the orphans and need families in Peru. We hope to see you there!
OUR VISIT TO ANKHUASI
ANKHUASI
This village is situated in a scenic valley among corn and potato fields about a one hour drive from Cusco.
Several hundred people greeted us at the main square. Carla added this place in part because many handicapped people live in this area. The local community has a program for families who don’t want their children institutionalized. They do what they can including rebuilding old wheel chairs when they can find them.
There was one boy who is in need of surgery and I was asked if our organization could help. I said we weren’t equipped to help, but I would check with other organizations in the USA. So please let me know if you have suggestions.
Santa was able to give toys and clothing to everyone in attendance. Afterwords, we were invited to have lunch. What they had to offer was potatoes and cheese. It was an excellent meal.

The very poor village of Molle Molle
A friend of Carla’s told her about the small village that was even more poor than the others we visit. We decided to include them in December . This visit turned out to be a wonderful experience for everyone involved.
Just to drive there was an exciting experience. There we eight of us in the truck. Luckily I got to ride in the front seat with Chapa (Carla’s mom). Everyone else was rolling around in the back of the truck with the food, toys, and clothing. They were also very cold.
The drive was memorable because we took a windy mountain road over a pass of over 14,000 feet. There were too many hairpin turns to count and we often had to drive around mudslides that covered half of the road. We arrived in Molle Molle in about two hours. The final half hour was on a gravel road.
The small village of Molle Molle is set in a scenic valley. A stream runs nearby.
When we arrived children ran to our truck from all directions. They were delighted to see Santa for the first time. Santa and the volunteers were excited too.
As usual, Carla’s mother Chapa started things off playing festive music and volunteers helped the children form circles. Next everyone received hot chocolate and bread. Later the children formed lines (the girls first this time) and all children received clothing and toys.
Next the elderly Women and men were given warm clothing. They were so happy and they all wanted to kiss my cheek.
Jessica, one of the older orphans who we help in Cusco went to this village to help. She was a great help with organizing the the children, sorting through clothing sizes, doing crowd control and in general being exactly where she was needed the most at any given time. We are so impressed with her and are looking forward to her help next year.
Thank YOU!
Peruvian Orphan Fund, Inc. #46-2901678
The year 2015 was our first full one as a non profit. Thanks to you, we generated over $11,000.00. Our fundraisers included two garage sales, our first golf tournament, and your generous cash donations. Your caring allowed us to help many more very needy people than before.
Joe made a trip to Peru over Christmas to deliver the rewards from our fund-raising that includes children in two orphanages. Joe dressed as Santa, a strange but wonderful sight to the children in Peru, delivered food, clothing, and toys.
We continue helping handicapped children in Cusco and have added several more who live in Ankhuasi.
Most of the at-risk individuals we have helped, the elderly and children, live in remote mountain villages surrounding Cusco. In Villages like Marcaconga, Calca, Molle Molle, Ankhuasi, and Oropesa, we were pleased to provide warm clothing and toys.
We give special thanks to Carla Farfan, our Director in Peru, who spends several months shopping for the best deals in clothing, food, and other gifts. She does a wonderful job of maximizing the impact of your generous donations.
Thank you again for being part of our tenth year in support of the disadvantaged. We appreciate your world view of goodwill, and want you to know that your help continues to fulfill the basic needs of housing, education, and health for the very needy in and around Cusco, Peru.
With appreciation, Joe
Calca Health Clinic
Calca is a small village situated in the beautiful Sacred Valley about one and a half hours drive from Cusco. This is the second year we have meet the children and elderly adults at the local health clinic. Carla’s mother was a teacher here and has arranged the visits.
Many of these children live in an isolated mountain village about a three hour walk from the clinic. It is heart warming to bring them Christmas gifts. We also help many children who live closer to the clinic. There were over 500 children and older adults in attendance this year.
The procedure here is similar to all the places we visit. First the hot chocolate is prepared over a wood fire and the food is made ready. Next the boys and girls are arranged in circles where they are given hot chocolate and bread. (Wherever we go, everyone must bring their own cup for hot chocolate).
After the refreshments are served, he boys and girls form lines with the smallest in the front and then they receive toys and clothing. Afterwords, they exit through the gate. Finally, the elderly form a line and receive warm clothing.
Three of our volunteers at Calca, grew up in Cuzco orphanages. It was amazing to see Evelyn, Jessika, and Saddam give back to others in need.
The Peruvian Orphan Fund also left 100 sets of clothing at the clinic for new children born this year.
Marcaconga Villages
We have been visiting Marcaconga and several poor nearby villages for the past six years.
They are located in a scenic area near several lakes. The elevation of over thirteen thousand feet. The local economy is mainly agriculture including corn and potatoes . The drive from Cusco takes around two and a half hours. Our caravan included one large truck, a van, and three other vehicles.
Our early visits took place in a large room which held about three hundred people, but it soon became dangerously overcrowded. As a result, over the last four years, we have been meeting at an outdoor stadium that can accommodate over one thousand-five hundred people.
the event begins as soon as we get set up. But first the hot chocolate has to be prepared over a wood fire. Next, the cakes and rolls are readied.
Meanwhile Carla’s mother leads other adults organizing the boys and girls into circles where they receive refreshments. Upbeat music plays in the background creating a party atmosphere.
The stands are filled with mostly elderly adults who also receive food and drink.
Santa walks around the stadium greeting and shaking hands with everyone in attendance. Lots of Ho Ho Ho’s and Feliz Navidads can be heard.
Meanwhile, the volunteers prepare the children to receive gifts. The boys usually go first and form lines based on size with the smallest going first. The clothing and toys for the youngest are placed at the head of the line and we adjust to the ages and sizes as the children move through. We repeat this process with the girls. After each one receives their gifts, they exit the stadium.
Next come the elderly. They also line up to receive their warm clothing with the women going first.
We help over one thousand-five hundred people here and it takes all fifteen Peruvian Orphan Fund volunteers as well as the Mayor and some locals to help the celebration run smoothly.
